Sometimes, after pulling you over, a patrol officer might say: "You cannot drive any further, I am suspending you from driving." This sounds scary. However, by law, this is not a permanent loss of your license. It is only a temporary ban from driving to stop a traffic violation. Let's look at the exact reasons why you can be suspended and how to get back behind the wheel quickly.
9 legal reasons for suspension from driving
An officer has the full right to stop you from driving in the following cases:
No documents
You forgot your license or registration, cannot show them in the "Tunduk" app, or they have expired.
DUI (Drunk driving)
Alcohol or drug intoxication, or refusing a medical sobriety test.
License plate issues
Driving without license plates, using fake plates, or covering them with nets or films.
Window tint and sirens
Your vehicle has illegal sirens or window tint, and you refuse to remove the tint film on the spot.
Unpaid fines
Overdue traffic fines totaling more than 30 calculation indices (3,000 som).
Traffic crash involvement
You caused or were involved in a traffic crash with property damage or injuries.
Reckless driving
You were racing, drifting, or performing stunts on a public road.
Dangerous defects
Your brakes, steering, or towing hitch (if driving with a trailer) are broken.
Altered VIN or numbers
The VIN or chassis number on the vehicle body does not match the registration document.

How long does the suspension last?
The law clearly states: the suspension applies until the cause is completely fixed.

You can save the situation right on the spot:
- Forgot your license? Ask relatives to bring it to you, or show the digital document on your smartphone.
- Caught drunk? Let a sober passenger with a valid license drive instead.
- Stopped for window tint? Remove the film in front of the officer.
As soon as the cause is fixed, the officer will issue a fine for the violation itself, but the driving ban is lifted. The vehicle stays with you, and they cannot call a tow truck.
What happens if you do not fix the issue?
If you are alone, intoxicated, or have no one to bring your forgotten documents, the officer will call a tow truck. Your vehicle will be taken to a specialized impound lot until you fix the problem and pay all debts.

How is this documented?
An officer cannot simply say "you are suspended." The suspension from driving must be officially recorded in the traffic violation report. If the vehicle is taken to an impound lot, the officer must also write an inspection report and an inventory list of the items inside the vehicle.
