Before starting off, changing lanes, turning, making a U-turn, or stopping, the driver must use the turn signal for the correct direction. If the turn signals are missing or broken, the driver must use hand signals. The maneuver must be safe and must not block other road users.
To signal a left turn or U-turn, extend your left arm straight out to the side. You can also extend your right arm out to the side and bend it up at the elbow at a 90-degree angle. To signal a right turn, extend your right arm straight out to the side. You can also extend your left arm out to the side and bend it up at the elbow at a 90-degree angle. To signal braking, raise your left or right arm straight up.
