After turning on the hazard lights, or if they are broken or missing, the driver must immediately place a warning triangle (or a flashing red light):

• During a traffic crash;
• When the vehicle is forced to stop in places where stopping is banned. The driver must also place it where other drivers cannot see the vehicle in time because of poor visibility.

The driver must place this sign (or light) at a distance that gives other drivers enough time to see the danger. However, this distance must be at least 15 meters from the vehicle in residential areas and at least 30 meters outside residential areas. The warning triangle must meet the GOST 24333-80 standards.
