Summary

DUI (drunk driving) penalties in Kyrgyzstan are now much stricter. The government has taken tough measures. If you drive drunk, you will not only pay a huge fine and lose your license, but you can also go to prison. Here are the active penalties for 2026.

Administrative Liability

If a driver is caught drunk for the first time and did not cause serious injury to other people, they will be punished under the Code of Violations.

Important Information

The vehicle will be immediately impounded (Code of Violations, Article 38, Part 5).

"Driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances (whether the driver has a license or not) results in a fine for individuals of 800 calculation indices (80,000 som) and suspension of driving privileges for two years."

"If a driver (with or without a license) refuses to take a legal sobriety test, they will face a fine for individuals of 1,000 calculation indices (100,000 som) and suspension of driving privileges for three years."

"If a drunk driver causes property damage or minor injury by negligence, and the action is not a crime, it results in a fine for individuals of 1,000 calculation indices (100,000 som) and suspension of driving privileges for three years."

"If a vehicle owner, driver, or manager lets an intoxicated person or someone without a license drive the vehicle, it results in a fine. The fine is 200 calculation indices (20,000 som) for individuals and 550 calculation indices (55,000 som) for legal entities."

Criminal Liability (Criminal Code)

If a driver drives drunk again, or causes a traffic crash that seriously injures or kills someone, they will face criminal charges under the Criminal Code.

"Driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances, within one year after completing a previous DUI penalty, is punished by a fine of 1,000 to 1,500 calculation indices (100,000 to 150,000 som) with the loss of certain job rights, or prison time for up to one year."

"Causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances is punished by prison time for five to eight years. The driver also loses the right to hold certain jobs or drive vehicles for six to nine years. (Note: under Article 63 of the Criminal Code, losing the right to drive means license suspension)."

"Causing a fatal crash while driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicating substances is punished by prison time for eight to ten years. The driver also loses the right to hold certain jobs or drive vehicles for nine to twelve years."

Conclusion

In 2026, driving after drinking alcohol is not just expensive, it is very dangerous for your freedom. If police officers stop you while you are drunk, you will lose your license for at least 2 years and pay a huge fine. A repeated violation or a crash will lead to criminal court. Stay safe and protect others on the road!
