Fine for illegal parking

Illegal parking is one of the most common traffic violations in Kyrgyzstan. The fine amount depends on the location and situation: sometimes you can pay a minimal fine with a discount, while other times the fine is much higher with no discount available.

1. Parking in prohibited areas

This is the most common parking fine. You get it when a vehicle is stopped or parked where it is prohibited by rules or blocks other road users.

• parking on a crosswalk or a sidewalk;
• parking under a "No stopping" sign;
• stopping closer than 5 meters to an intersection;
• parking near a public transit stop;
• parking in a way that blocks traffic on the roadway.

2. Parking in a public transit lane

This is a more serious violation because stopping in a transit lane blocks buses and trolleybuses from moving along their routes.

3. Parking on lawns and green zones

This is a fine for violating public landscaping rules, so the amounts are much higher. It applies to parking in landscaped areas, even if there are no traffic signs nearby.

4. Failure to pay for municipal parking

This fine applies if a vehicle is parked in a paid municipal parking lot without payment, or if the paid time has expired and the vehicle still occupies the space.

5. When a vehicle can be impounded

Example situation

Compulsory towing consists of the forced movement of a vehicle from the scene of a violation or a traffic crash to a specialized impound lot.

Towing is not a fine, but an additional measure.

Why a vehicle can be towed: towing is used in situations where the vehicle blocks other road users or creates a danger.

In these cases, the driver usually has to pay a fine for the violation, towing services, and vehicle storage at the specialized impound lot.

Illegal parking can cost from 300 som to 17 000 som, depending on the violation. The smartest thing to do is to watch the signs and pavement markings, avoid parking on sidewalks and green zones, and pay for paid parking on time.
